BUL Operational Plan Outline

To achieve the strategic plan, the Library will operationalize the key priorities listed below. Each priority area has a set of goals intended to focus the Library’s work in fulfillment of the strategic plan. The priorities, for the most part, encompass work across departmental lines; individual Library units will contribute to a number of different goals in various ways perhaps according to different timelines.

Collections

  • Align with University’s academic priorities to meet academic program needs
  • Improve the physical ecosystem (PDF Document)
  • Improve the digital ecosystem
  • Re-envision technical services

Library Expertise

  • Increase integration of Library expertise and services with curricular and research programs

Digital Scholarship and Scholarly Communication

  • Align with the University’s Digital Strategy
  • Clarify the Center for Digital Scholarship’s priorities and elevate its visibility, programs, and services
  • Improve the Brown Digital Repository
  • Facilitate faculty Open Access policy

Special Collections

  • Expand engagement with the collections in research, teaching, exhibitions, outreach, and public programs across all academic disciplines
  • Develop a compelling and creative vision that strengthens the activities and wider visibility of the John Hay Library as a center of scholarship and education
  • Ensure that the John Hay Library adheres to the highest professional standards for security, preservation, and collection stewardship

Communications

  • Prepare for a redesign of the Library’s website that aligns with the University’s web standards and protocols
  • Develop a communications plan and set of exemplary practices (includes internal and external, social media, etc.)

Diversity and Community 

Consistent with the Library Strategic Plan, each operational planning area also will incorporate actions to enhance and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion through the work of the Library as well as strive to have a positive impact on the wider community.

  • Make the Library a more welcoming place for users and staff
  • Review and reinvigorate the Library DIAP
  • Develop and implement a community engagement plan
